“The positive thing was that Márquez increased his lead in the World Championship and got another podium”

Alberto Puig experienced his tenth Grand Prix as Team Manager of the Repsol Honda Team at Brno, where Marc Márquez finished third and Pedrosa eighth.

After a brief summer break, the MotoGP World Championship returned to action with the Czech GP. Brno hosted an exciting race, in which Marc Márquez increased his lead in the overall standings to 49 points. Before the series moves on to Austria, the Repsol Honda Team Manager gives his opinions on the most recent race.

WHAT WAS THE STRATEGY FOR THE CZECH RACE?
“The strategy for both our riders was try to stay up front and manage the tyres for the second part of the race. Marc managed this without making any mistakes, while Dani had the same pace as the front group. If he could have made up some positions in the early stages he could have stayed with the leaders.”

POSITIVE POINTS AND NEGATIVE POINTS AFTER THE RACE?
“The positive thing was Marc increased  his advantage in the championship by another three points and got another podium at a circuit which isn’t one of his favourites, even though he won here last season. Dani had good race pace but unfortunately he wasn’t able to fight up front.”

THE VIEW FROM THE PIT WALL DURING THE RACE?
“The race pace wasn’t so fast, but it was a very exciting race, with many riders very close to each other.”

THE INSIDE STORY APART FROM YOUR OFFICIAL COMMENTS?
“This weekend we had seven Honda riders on track, with Stefan Bradl riding as an HRC Wild Card. He will race again at the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano in September.”
